An Endless Vortex of Books
When I encounter a small tucked away library, bookstore, or cafe, I feel a sense of wonder at all the treasures waiting to be found inside each shop. Even if I don’t have the time to step in, I walk by a little happier than I was before. It’s an interesting quality that these little niches possess; they can instill a sense of peace and contentedness, but at the same time, of wonder and excitement.
When I was in Prague, I did have a moment to step into a small library. As I walked in, I was greeted by a flight of stairs and an interesting sculpture.
Inspecting the sculpture more closely, I noticed it was composed solely of books.
Then peering into the cut-out rain drop center, I was greeted by something extraordinary: the books seemed to continue on forever downwards and upwards (a bit like the scene in Interstellar when Matthew McConaughey’s character is in the ‘fifth dimension’).
To a voracious reader, the possibility of endless leisure time to indulge in the pleasure of reading is heavenly, providing the opportunity to learn about revolutionary breakthroughs, to be transported into fantastical lands with mesmerizing characters, and to simply take a short reprise from day-to-day affairs.
Simple pleasures can sometimes be the most powerful.
